The documentary on groundbreaking hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest will hit theaters this summer.

According to billboard.com, Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest will premiere in New York and Los Angeles on July 8, eventually rolling out to 32 more cities in July and August.

Reportedly financed with filmmaker Michael Rapaport’s own credit cards, the film traces the Queens collective’s formation, history and five-album release run in the 1990s.

Tribe wordsmith Q-Tip has expressed mixed feelings about the final product, but Rapaport said it’s only a natural response from the group’s de facto leader.

"The differences Tip had, I think, came down to the fact that he's an artist and a perfectionist who is always in control," Rapaport told Billboard, referring to ATCQ as the "Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin of first generation hip-hop."  "He was the leader of Tribe. But I'm making the movie and I have to make the final decisions. He's accustomed to making all of the decisions. I have thought about it a lot and if somebody made a movie as interpersonal as this about me, I don't know that I'd be pleased with someone else making the decisions. To me, it's a love letter to the band."
