2016 Grammy Awards Infographic Provides History, Fun Facts and Nominees for Best Rap Album
Hip-hop will certainly be embraced at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards next month. With Kendrick Lamar's 11 nominations alone, the genre is winning this year. To celebrate the occasion, the Grammys has given XXL an exclusive infographic on the Best Rap Album category.
This graphic provides some insight into the five albums nominated for Best Rap Album as well as the history of the category. The nominees for this year's Best Rap Album category are J. Cole's 2014 Forest Hills Drive, Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late, Nicki Minaj's The Pinkprint, Dr. Dre's Compton and Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly.
As you can see on the infographic, Nicki Minaj is looking to become the first female to ever win a Grammy for Best Rap Album. And while Dr. Dre has a storied career, he is also competing for his first win in the category for one of his solo albums. Dre has previously been honored in the Best Rap Album category for his production work on two Eminem albums.
The frontrunner for this year's award has to be Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly. The Compton rapper racked up a staggering 11 nominations at this year's ceremony. Feb. 15 could be a big night for K. Dot, who many felt was snubbed for when his good kid, m.A.A.d city LP lost out to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' The Heist at the 2014 Grammy Awards.
Make sure you tune into the Grammy Awards next month to see who wins. The ceremony, taking place at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 15, is sure to be a big night for hip-hop as rap legend LL Cool J will host the festivities once again. For those watching at home, CBS will cover all of the festivities.
