A nomination for a Grammy Award is a special moment in any artist's career. For this year's lineup for Best New Artist, however, XXXTentacion has been deemed as ineligible, according to Hits Daily Double.

The late rapper was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2018 American Music Awards and won Best New Artist at the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards, so it came as a surprise to many yesterday (Oct. 17) when it was revealed that X will not be nominated in the category for the 2019 Grammy Awards. Unfortunately, X's first album 17 was released in August 2017, five weeks before the start of the 2019 eligibility year. He would have been the first artist to ever be nominated posthumously in the category.

Although X didn't appear to make the cut, this year's lineup of eligible rappers and singers for Best New Artist includes Juice Wrld, Lil Baby, Lil Pump, Lil Skies, Lil Peep, H.E.R., Jordan Smith, Margo Price, Dhani Harrison, Greta Van Fleet and Ella Mai, among others. There were a total of 332 artists that were entered for Best New Artist this year. A total of 374 artists competed for the entry into the Best New Artist category in 2017.

X wasn't the only artist who didn't receive a chance at the nomination this year. 21 Savage, Nipsey Hussle, Tee Grizzley, Lil Xan, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, 6lack and more have also been left off the ballot.

Despite the fact that X won't receive a Grammy, his memory continues to live on. He was featured on Lil Wayne's Carter V (Sept. 28) on "Don't Cry" and will appear on Tory Lanez's upcoming album, Love Me Now (Oct. 26). The late rapper is also rumored to make an appearance on Kanye West's forthcoming album, Yandhi.

Be sure to catch the 61st Grammy Awards on Feb. 10.
