U.N.L.V. Settles Lawsuit with Cash Money Records

U.N.L.V., the pioneering New Orleans based hip-hop group, has reached a settlement in their lawsuit against their former label, Cash Money Records. The group, which was comprised of members Tec-9, Lil Ya and Yella Boyee (who was murdered in 1999), signed with Cash Money in 1992 as one of the label’s first acts. The trio released six albums on Cash Money, but according to their lawsuit, they were never fully compensated. While both sides have now reached an agreement on how to settle the lawsuit, the exact terms of the settlement are confidential. U.N.L.V. is credited with starting the gangsta bounce style of New Orleans hip-hop that the Cash Money Millionaires popularized in the late ‘90s. The group is best known for their underground classic, “Drag ‘Em From the River,” which dissed No Limit Records rapper Mystikal. The song was later remixed as a diss to Baby of Cash Money.
