Kay Flock, born Kevin Perez, quickly became one of the most popular New York drill artists to emerge from the Boogie Down Bronx. He began his rap career in May of 2020 with the release of "FTO," which showcased his gruff voice and aggressive flow. Kay followed up with other songs such as "Opp Spotter" featuring his friend and fellow Bronx rapper B-Lovee.
The New York rapper's initial success with his singles motivated him to release more music at a rapid pace. His three well-known hits, "PSA," "Being Honest," and the rowdy "Is Ya Ready," have become fan favorites in his fairly new catalog. The songs also helped him secure a record deal with Capitol Records in July of 2021. In November of 2021, Kay Flock dropped The D.O.A. Tape. The project boasts a guest feature from Chicago star G Herbo, who jumped on the remix of "Being Honest." Additionally, Kay appeared on Lil Tjay's single "Not In The Mood" with Fivio Foreign, which peaked at No. 61 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Kay's first appearance on the chart.
But his success came to a halt in February of 2023. Kay Flock was indicted on federal RICO charges in connection with seven shootings that took place in the Bronx between June of 2020, and February of 2022. Prosecutors are accusing him of being a member of New York’s Sev Side/DOA Gang. The embattled rapper is currently in jail awaiting trial for murder stemming from the 2021 shooting death of Oscar Hernandez.
