Minneapolis based independent label Rhymesayers Entertainment, home to artists such as M.F. Doom, Atmosphere and Brother Ali, has inked a marketing and distribution deal with Warner Music’s Independent Label Group. Through the deal, Rhymesayers will be given access to the music giant’s full marketing and promotional resources, but will continue to operate somewhat independently. As part of the agreement, Rhymesayers artists can potentially be picked up by a larger Warner label. “More than our desire to be independent, Rhymesayers first and foremost has always wanted to be in a position to help our artists reach their individual goals and aspirations,” says Brent Sayers, President and co-founder of the label “ILG understood that and has provided us with an extremely unique opportunity to do this. Under this new deal, we can remain as independent as we have ever been while utilizing individual select services as needed.” The Independent Label Group is comprised of Asylum Records, East West Records and Cordless Recordings. Houston based labels Swishahouse and Rap-A-Lot Records are two other independent labels who have negotiated successful partnerships with the ILG.
