There are a ton of talented songwriters that make up the hip-hop landscape, and PnB Rock, who's currently in the midst of promoting his new TrapStar Turnt PopStar album, due out Friday (May 3), believes he's right there near the very top of the crop.

Speaking with media personality Ebro Darden on his Beats 1 radio program on Thursday (May 2), PnB explained why he believes he's a top-tier songwriter as well as some of his own influences.

PnB began by saying that if we're looking at the history of music as a whole, he might have a lower rank on the songwriting totem pole.

"But in this generation, in this time...this generation of hip hop. I would say, I'm top five. For sure," PnB stated. "I feel like I gave a lot of these new up and coming artists, not on no trying to take credit for nothing, but I helped...generate this sauce that's like this rapping, singing, trapping, and being comfortable with the...You know what I'm saying? I'm one of the first ...to do that," he added.

PnB Rock also cited Drake as a major influence of his style. "Yeah, like I love ... Drake. I don't feel like I would've been it without Drake neither, though, because he made it comfortable," he said. "With people to make melodies and sing and rap at the same time, but me, I just wanted to take it to the trap with my ...street people."

Elsewhere in the interview, the 2017 XXL Freshman talked about his friendship with the late rapper XXXTentacion and the double meaning behind TrapStar Turnt PopStar.
