In the age of President Donald Trump, Cardi B has been an outspoken voice for today’s younger generation. Her recent comments criticizing President Trump for his role in the government shutdown have drawn more attention to her outspokenness, and now, Democrats in Iowa want her to speak at an upcoming Democratic reception.

On Wednesday (Jan. 30), the Des Moines Register reported that Iowa Democrats have invited Cardi B to speak at “a reception of her choice” sometime in May when her Invasion of Privacy Tour hits their town.

While Democrats in Iowa's Polk County had initially made their invite a casual one—they used their official Twitter account to extend it—they've since made it clear that they'd love to hear her speak at one of their events.

"We are definitely serious about this," said Polk County Democrats chair Sean Bagniewski. "She speaks to the new activism in the Democratic Party.”

As of right now, Polk County Democrats are trying to reach out to Cardi’s team and see if she's willing to speak to their young Democratic base. The Polk County Democrats have also extended an invitation to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Texas legislative candidate Beto O'Rourke to hold events in Des Moines.

So do they really think Cardi B would want to show up and speak at their event?

"Stranger things have happened," Bagniewski told the newspaper. "It's a long shot, but a little bit of her presence would go a long way."

About two weeks ago, Cardi B slammed President Trump for refusing to pay federal workers during the longest government shutdown in American history.

Cardi B has yet to publicly respond to the Iowa invitation.
