After taking a bit of a break from social media earlier this year, Denzel Curry is ready to begin the rollout process toward his highly anticipated Ta13oo album and his latest single, "Percs," which arrives Friday (May 25). In support of the latest song announcement, Curry stopped by Real Late With Peter Rosenberg to chop it up with Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg and Laura Stylez for a conversation regarding new music, SoundCloud rap's origins, mental health and much more.

Denzel is tired of rappers trying to take credit for starting SoundCloud rap and disrespecting those that paved the way before them. "The history is Odd Future started this shit first," he explains. "Lil B, Gucci Mane, Chief Keef, A$AP [Mob], and RVIDXR KLVN started what everyone is doing today from 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and then on down.

Curry credits SpaceGhostPurpp and RVIDXR KLVN as the originators of the SoundCloud internet scene.

He continues to harp on how Lil B burgeoned mumble rappers to create outside the usual box of hip-hop. "To us as young kids, Odd Future popped it off," Denzel continues. "All these guys doing shit and everyone calls it mumble rap—what they would classify Lil Yachty as. Look at Lil B, Lil B made that platform for a lot of people. You could do whatever you want without being judged and he could actually rap.

The 2016 XXL Freshman is prepping his third studio album, Ta1300. Denzel was tight-lipped about the project and even admitted he has a release date in mind but didn't want to share that information with the public just yet.

The Imperial rapper addressed his comments denouncing Smokepurpp's claim as the inventor of this new SoundCloud generation of hip-hop. "The reason why I had to say something was because numerous amount of people in Florida try to take credit for what already happened," Denzel states. He also clarifies he has no beef with Smokepurpp.
