Def Jam’s ‘Undisputed’ Compilation Album to Feature 17 New Label Signees
The future of Def Jam Recordings is looking bright.
On Wednesday (Jan. 23), the storied record label announced Undisputed, a forthcoming compilation album that serves as an audio roll call for the storied label's 17 new signees.
Artists featured on the new LP include Sneakk, SOBxRBE's Lul G, TJ Porter, Dominic Lord, Fetty Luciano, Bernard Jabs, Landstrip Chip, YK Osiris, Nimic Revenue, YFL Kelvin, Striiipes, Billz, S3nsi Molly, Lil Brook, Ashton Travis, PVRX and Nasaan.
The compilation was created during a week-long recording session in November 2018. The in-house creative team called the lengthy Los Angeles recording sessions a "rap camp," and the sessions will be documented in an eight-part docuseries designed to introduce the new signees to fans.
With the project, Def Jam is continuing the label's history of showcasing dope talent.
“During the course of the past year, in collaboration with our talented EVP Steven Victor and our incredible team of executives, we have worked diligently to define the label we strive to become,” said Def Jam Recordings chairman & CEO Paul Rosenberg. “One of the most important aspects of our efforts has centered around building a new roster. Together with these incredible new artists we have developed urgent, cutting-edge, and truly great new music and content. As we proudly enter our 35th anniversary year, I’m excited to launch this project, one that I think defines and encapsulates our new direction.”
Steven Victor, who acts as Def Jam Recordings EVP & head of A&R, is on the same page as Rosenberg. “I believe in artistry and the idea that great music will find its audience,” Victor says. “I’m beyond excited about the roster of new artists we’ve built here at Def Jam."
Def Jam's Undisputed album will arrive in stores on March 8. You can watch the trailer to the docuseries below.
