Rapper Dave East continues to bless the streets with his gritty, story-telling rhymes and his raw lyricism. Last week, he dropped his latest project, Paranoia: A True Story, looking to continue the momentum that has led him to be at the forefront of the new New York rap scene. To celebrate the release of his project, Dave came through the XXL office to share details on the the recording process, the meaning behind the title's project and much more.

Considered to be his debut EP, released under the Def Jam and Mass Appeal imprints, Dave’s anticipated project was released on Aug. 18. With guest appearances from Nas, Jeezy, French Montana, Wiz Khalifa and more, the EP contains the lead single “Perfect” with Chris Brown and features 13 brand new tracks from the East Harlem spitter. Serving as a follow-up to his 2016 mixtape, Kairi Chanel, the Paranoia EP is Dave's tale of his current lifestyle and the things that come with fame and money.

"If you been a fan of my music thus far, you can tell that I talk about what’s going on like right in my life,” says Dave of his recording method. “With Paranoia, it’s not like I’m fearing for my life or I’m thinking somebody trying to kill or nothing like that, but it’s more of a fear of what’s to come, you know what I’m saying? Now that I’ve gotten to a point where I’m out the hood, I’m not broke every day. I can pick what I want to eat, you know what I’m saying? I’m living how I dreamed of living now, so now it’s like the fear of the unknown. I don’t know what’s going to come with this now, you get what I’m saying?”

Paranoia: A True Story, is now available on all streaming services including iTunes and Tidal. Look for more content to drop within the days to come from XXL and Mr. East. In the meantime, check out Dave speak on his new EP in the video above.
