It's been a minute since Andre 3000 himself spoke about new music, telling Billboard back in January that he's been "holding back" and he's "always recording." While expectations will be tempered for the enigmatic artist, Chris Rock just gave good reason to think 3 Stacks will be dropping an album sometime soon, his first since Outkast released the double-disc Speakerboxxx/The Love Below in 2003.

"Me, Dave, D-nice, jack white and jarobi hard at work on the new Andre 3000 album," Rock captioned a photo on Instagram on Thursday (April 8). The group had gathered beforehand for a Phife Dawg tribute, the photo originally popping up on DJ D-Nice's feed earlier in the day. While Rock could always be joking, the collection of personalities above at the very least gives good cause to imagine he's not.

Andre had recently joined Kendrick Lamar, Chuck D and others in paying Phife Dawg tribute on Q-Tip’s Abstract Radio show on Beats 1. And earlier this week, at the Phife tribute at the Apollo, he mentioned that about a year or two ago, Outkast and A Tribe Called Quest had discussed working on a joint album together. While Phife's tragic passing is no doubt stirring memories and emotions, it could be possible that the above assembly in his honor has also yielded new work.

Below, catch further photos from D-Nice posted to Jarobi White's page with such captions as "Best part of last night was watching the classic movie HipHop 'Beat Street' in a room full of icons" and "One of my favorite conversations of the night!... D'Angelo, pictured with Jack White and Chris Rock, told some amazing stories last night at Tip's house."
