The Aalyiah biopic, which looked like it was going to end production for good after Zendaya Coleman dropped out of the film, has been given new life. Alexandra Shipp, a 23-year-old actress who starred on the Nickelodeon TV show House of Anubis and rumored to be in Drumline 2: A New Beat, has been chosen to replace Coleman for the lead role.

According to Shipp's IMDB page, she is also a "talented singer/songwriter and is in the process of recording her first EP..."

The film, which has faced scrutiny from Aaliyah's family, is still scheduled to air on Lifetime but no word yet on whether the release date has changed.
