If only there were a sound to capture Young M.A's rise this summer. After performing her smash "OOOUUU" at the BET Hip Hop Awards and participating in one the program's many cyphers, the Brooklyn rapper is making her mark on the charts as well, with "OOOUUU" becoming the first song by a female lead act this year to crack the top 10 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The song climbs from No. 12 to No. 8, on the Oct. 22-dated chart, with downloads increasing by 38 percent to 15,000 in the week ending Oct. 6.

The last song to enter in the top 10 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart with a female lead act was Missy Elliott's "WTF (Where They From)" featuring Pharrell, which peaked at No. 8 on the Dec. 5, 2015 chart. Nicki Minaj appeared in the top 10 back in March, but as a featured artist on Yo Gotti's "Down in the DM" remix, that song peaking at No. 3. Minaj, who would otherwise be a mainstay on the chart, hasn't released an album since 2014's The Pinkprint, though she, and a slew of others, has remixed "OOOUUU" in recent months.

The chart jump for M.A is aided by gains across all metrics, including airplay, digital sales and streaming. The newly released 50 Cent remix to "OOOUUU" contributed over 1,000 digital sales by itself. All praises to M.A who continues to be one of the biggest break-out acts of the summer.
