BET has announced that it will be hosting a three-hour concert to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legendary March On Selma. The show will take place on the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the exact location where police forces attacked the peaceful protesters as they tried to advance toward Montgomery. The event, dubbed Bloody Sunday, took place exactly 50 years ago this March 7; the concert to memorialize it will feature Vanilla Ice.

Speaking to AL.com, Parker Baxter, the General Manager and Executive Vice President of Centric TV and President of BET Event Productions (both of whom are putting on the show), defended the controversial decision. "Vanilla Ice was in the Soul Train Awards two years ago and he's a really cool person," Baxter said. "When we call him for things he likes working with us, and we like working with him." Baker went on to add, "He's one of the people we call to participate in things with us, and if he can do it he absolutely will. I sent him a text and within two minutes his response was two words: 'I'm in.'"

The concert will center on a reprise of "Self Destruction," performed by Ice, Rick Ross, Bell Biv DeVoe, Flava Flav, Doug E. Fresh, MC Lyte, D-Nice and more.
