Vanilla Ice Arrested for Burglary

Rapper and reality television star Vanilla Ice was arrested this morning (Feb. 18) and charged with burglary and grand theft in connection to an incident that occurred in January of this year, according to a report in Variety. Ice, real name Robert Van Winkle, was taken into custody in Lantana, Fla., according to local police chief Sean Scheller. THR reports that Ice allegedly stole household items from what appeared to be an abandoned home next to where he was renovating a house for his long-running reality-TV series The Vanilla Ice Project. Van Winkle had been renovating a house in the area when the owner of an adjacent property reported a litany of items missing, including pieces of furniture, bicycles, and a pool heater. When authorities obtained the necessary search warrants, they entered the house belonging to Van Winkle and found the missing items. The items have reportedly been returned to their rightful owner, and Scheller says that Ice has been cooperative with the investigation. Still, the "Ice Ice Baby" rapper will have to shore up his legal team to face these charges. Scheller also told THR that he is planning on charging Vanilla Ice with burglary and grand theft.

Since 2009, Van Winkle has hosted The Vanilla Ice Project, a show on the DIY Network that focuses on renovating and remodeling homes. This series has led to speaking engagements and book deals, which have helped vault Ice back into some semblance of a spotlight. He has also continued recording and releasing music, his most recent wide release being 2011's W.T.F. (Wisdom, Tenacity and Focus). In recent years, Ice has also gone on record denying the widely reported story that Suge Knight once dangled the rapper by his ankles off a highrise in order to secure a bigger publishing split.
