TLC Is Subject of Vh1 Documentary
Vh1 is launching a series of documentary-style movies and TLC will be the first subject. The film will be penned by screenwriter Kate Lanier who is also responsible for flicks like Set It Off, What's Love Got To Do With It and Beauty Shop.
TLC surviving members T-Boz and Chilli have both signed on to consult and produce the film and hope to revive the legacy of their deceased friend and group mate, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.
"The reality of this brings me to tears because I am seeing one of my dreams come to life," Chilli said in the press release. "I always felt our story had to be told. What makes it even more amazing is having Kate Lanier on board. I remember watching ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ with Lisa, and I knew then whoever wrote that story had to write ours. I will forever be thankful to Jeff Olde for believing in our story and going the extra mile to make it happen."
"I’m just overjoyed," T-Boz added. "I appreciate Jeff Olde and everyone on staff at VH1 that took interest in us, thank you. Kate Lanier is amazing. I’m honored to work with her I love her art. Well here we go on another TLC ride and I can’t wait. Like Biggie said ‘Now if ya don’t know, now ya knowwwww."
TLC released their debut, The TLC Tip, in 1991 and sold over 6 million copies, but it was the release of their second album, CrazySexyCool, in 1994 that elevated them to superstar status, with over 22 million albums moved worldwide. But soon after things began to look dim for the trio: T-Boz suffered from sickle-cell disease, Left Eye burned down her then-boyfriend's house, and the group filed for bankruptcy.
And that's not where the group's mishaps ended. Left Eye began to dispute with the other two ladies after feeling left out of their third album, FanMail. Thankfully, they were able to patch things up in time for their fourth album, 3D. It was just then when Left Eye suffered a fatal car accident while on a spiritual trip in Honduras.
