Russell Simmons Banned From Yoga Studio Due to Sexual Misconduct Allegations: Report
Russell Simmons has largely been keeping a low profile following several allegations of rape and sexual misconduct in 2017. The claims recently caused a New York City yoga studio to ban the hip-hop mogul from using its facilities.
According to a Page Six report published on Saturday (Sept. 14), Modo Yoga NYC contacted Simmons on Thursday (Sept. 12) via e-mail and notified him he would no longer be allowed on site. The ban comes in response to complaints that were reported by students of the studio, where Simmons has been frequenting while in the States for the past few weeks.
Modo Yoga released a statement on the matter which reads: “We do not pass judgment, gossip or comment on any of our students . . . However, when we receive complaints from students who are uncomfortable because of another student’s alleged conduct outside of Modo, we are put in a difficult position.”
Simmons has reacted publicly to the ban. He reportedly told the paper, “The management invited me, and then said that my presence had ‘triggered some members.’ I’m deeply disappointed and hurt by it. Guilty by accusation, I don’t believe is a good way to go forward.”
Despite claims by over 15 women that Simmons committed some kind of sexual misconduct against them, the Def Jam co-founder maintains his innocence. Last year, he claimed to be a supporter of the #MeToo movement.
