The man accused of murdering Morgan Freeman's step-granddaughter has pleaded not guilty. According to Daily MailLamar Davenport, 30, appeared with his attorneys in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday (Sept. 22) morning, where he entered his not guilty plea for the death of E'Dena Hines.

Last month, Davenport allegedly attacked Hines just blocks away from her Washington Heights home, stabbing her 25 times (earlier reports stated 15). George Hudacko saw the attack from his window and called 911. According to Hudacko, Davenport was screaming, "Get out, devils. In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out," as he stabbed Hines. Prosecutors stated that the knife was still embedded in Hines' chest when police arrive to the scene. Davenport was thought to have been in a cocaine-induced rage and was on psychiatric hold following the attack. According to his lawyers, the 30-year old man, who also rapped under the name Lyric, is about to begin psychiatric examinations at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC. Davenport has been arrested six times across two states and has a history of substance abuse problems. Hines was 33-years-old at the time of her death. The two had been involved in an off-on relationship for the past nine years.

E'Dina Hines, who was the granddaughter of Morgan Freeman's first wife Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, followed in Freeman's footsteps. The young actress starred in a number of films, as well as the 2012 Broadway production of A Raising in the Sun. She recently returned to New York to star in the independent film, Landing Up.
