Princess Nokia Launches GoFundMe Campaign to Assist Hurricane Maria Survivors in Puerto Rico
Earlier this month, Hurricane Maria passed through Puerto Rico and left millions without power and access to a steady supply of food and water. Before that, the island was ravaged by Hurricane Irma. Now, Princess Nokia, who's a Puerto Rican from New York City, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help those in need.
"I am creating this go fund me, to directly provide imminent care and support to the people of Puerto Rico as a gesture of solidarity, and alliance with my mother country," she says in the description for her page. "This go fund me will serve as a personal 100 percent non-profit organization that will serve to assist the island and people of Puerto Rico in its dire time of need."
Nokia, who recently dropped her 1992 Deluxe album, plans to raise $100,000 for her campaign before using the money to provide things like medical supplies, clean water in mass bulk, medical coverage, non-perishable food, charitable on-site meals, cargo plane expenses, Spiritual and emotional trauma counseling and air fare for those wishing to leave the island. After launching the campaign just about two days ago, she's already raised $9,588.
Nokia has also just unveiled a new video for her 1992 Deluxe cuts, "Bart Simpson" and "Green Line." The visual lasts about eight minutes and examines Nokia's upbringing in New York City, taking us everywhere from the classroom where she was a reject, to the block party where she felt at home. The visual was directed by Nokia's friend and frequent collaborator Milah Libin.
