OG Maco Doesn’t Like Logic’s New Album Title
Logic announced earlier this week (Oct. 3) that his next album will be titled AfricAryaN, the concept behind it later described as “based on the fact that humanity stemmed from Africa and has to do with humans going from black to white.” The title is significantly more charged than Logic's previous The Incredible True Story, and OG Maco for one isn't so warm to the play on words.
"Like the Aryan Nation?" he wrote on Twitter Tuesday evening (Oct. 4). "Fam I know you don't like being black but fuck. The word "Aryan" is used almost exclusively as a rally cry for the "pure blood" superior white race theory. I think it's a [shit] title. Don't want ANYONE to call me a hater or skew my words and say I'm calling him a racist, I just think it's a poor title choice for the times."
As a guest on Dan Harmon’s podcast, Logic explained the title, saying, "Scientifically proven, the first man and woman [are] from Africa, and over time, culturally evolving into a lighter and lighter and much more fairer skin. So the album is going to be called AfricAryaN. And it’s about me being black and white and seeing life from two sides.”
Perception can often matter more than intention and OG Maco's response might reflect other initial reactions to the title. Logic did address some of the connotations Maco alludes to, saying, "How you can go from the darkest of skin to the lightest of skin? Or the Aryan brotherhood if you will, who believe that they’re ‘pure of blood.’ When, at the end of the day, we all have that in our blood, and we all have so many different ethnicities in our blood, no matter how pure we think we are. At the end of the day, life should be about peace, love and positivity and about equality for all—every man, woman and child that walks the Earth. And that’s what I’m saying on this entire album.”
