Royce Da 5'9" is gearing up to release Layers, his first solo effort in nearly five years. While he has teamed up with DJ Premier for the successful PRhyme album and tour and dropped projects with Slaughterhouse, Royce has gone through plenty of experiences that he's ready to explore on Layers.

“This album was the first album that I spent a lot of time putting it together as a complete thought,” the rapper said in a press release. “Most of my albums reflect an emotion based off of my feelings. Death Is Certain was dark because of everything I was going through; this album reflects my emotion, but also my thoughts. That focus on Layers comes after a gold album, multiple Top 5 chart appearances, and a high profile BET Hip Hop Awards cypher performance. “I've learned a lot from being apart of B.M.E, Slaughterhouse and PRhyme and I've had the opportunity to use all of those experiences to better myself as artist, so it's very exciting to see how those experiences will affect my career.”

Layers is executive produced by Denaun Porter of D12, a frequent collaborator who Royce is very comfortable working with. “Denaun is a genius and working with him is one of my comfortable working zones,” added the Detroit native. “I like working with everyone I've worked with a lot on this project but Denaun's super easy and a lot like myself in a lot of ways.”.

The album will officially drop on April 15. Royce dropped a video of him rapping the lyrics to the album cut "Hard" as a warmup for the release. Check it below.
