Actor Mahershala Ali will have scripts flooding in following his Oscar win Sunday night (Feb. 26) for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in Moonlight. Ali, who had previously stared in House of Cards and Luke Cage became the first Muslim actor to win a Academy Award, however, before he was an actor, Ali tried his hand at rapping going as Prince Ali.

The actor released two albums,  Corner Ensemble in 2006, followed by Curb Side Service in 2007, with a sampling of tracks included below. In Luke Cage, he plays the uptown gangster Cottonmouth, who has a portrait of The Notorious B.I.G. hanging in his office.

Speaking with XXL in October, Ali said that he used to breakdance a bit as well. "Hip-hop has definitely had a strong, perhaps the strongest influence on my life," he said. "I don’t think I’m at all unique with that. I think there’s so many people of color, and even White kids, that have been tolerating the stresses of their own problems and what not and were able to navigate so many things through the culture of hip-hop and create jobs, have opportunities and been able to express themselves and finding their identity in. I think that’s true with so many people, definitely with me."

Props to Mahershala on his Oscar win and for becoming a father. His wife gave birth to a daughter just four days before the Academy Awards.
