It’s official: Former 2 Live Crew frontman Luther Campbell is running for mayor of Miami-Dade County.

Campbell is one of nearly a dozen people who filed necessary paperwork this week to run for mayor in the special election scheduled for May 24, according to CBS Miami. Former Mayor, Carlos Alvarez, was ousted in a recall election held on March 15.

In a written statement, Campbell said he plans to build his campaign around the issues of economic development, public safety, community revitilization and affordable housing. The Miami native and Luke Records founder also added that his biggest obstacle may be convincing people he’s more than a novelty.

“I don’t expect anyone to just vote for me because I am Uncle Luke,” he wrote in a column that appeared in the Miami Times earlier this year. “They are going to vote for me because Uncle Luke wants to do something about the way this county is headed.”
