Today, April 3, is the 26th birthday of Brooklyn rapper Young M.A!

The MC got her start in music from a young age freestyling. In 2014, M.A's name started to pick up traction online when she dropped the "Brooklyn Chiraq" freestyle and the song and video went viral online. In 2015, Young M.A kept the momentum going by dropping the mixtapes M.A The Mixtape and Sleep Walkin', but it wasn't until last year when the openly gay rapper hit it big with mainstream hip-hop listeners. In May of 2016, the rising talent dropped the track "OOOUUU," an ode to the nights of "smizzed" sex, as M.A puts it. "OOOUUU" peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and by the end of the summer, it had been remixed by Remy Ma, French Montana, ASAP Ferg, Jadakiss, 50 Cent and more.

Young M.A spoke with XXL about finding her way in the hip-hop world as a woman and an openly gay rapper.

“Once I got to that point and got comfortable with myself, and who I was and didn’t care what people thought of me, that’s when I felt like this was the perfect time to express that in my music,” said the 25-year-old.

In 2017, M.A dropped her EP, Herstory, which includes latest single "Hot Sauce."

Happy Birthday, Young M.A!
