Gene Simmons Fires Back at N.W.A for Calling Him Out at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction

Typically, the words Gene Simmons and hip-hop would not cross paths in the same sentence, but the KISS member's recent comments on the death of rap have put his name square in the middle of some rap convos. Last night, the legendary rap crew N.W.A was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and during their acceptance speech MC Ren took the time to voice his opinion on the old school rocker putting rap in a premature casket.

“And I want to say to Mr. Gene Simmons, hip-hop is here forever! Get used to it! Get used to it! We supposed to be here!" Ren told the crowd. Adding to his point, Ice Cube noted, “The question is, ‘Are we Rock and roll?’” he added. “And I say, you goddamn right we Rock and roll. Rock and roll is not an instrument. It’s not even a style of music. It’s a spirit that’s been going on since the blues, jazz, bebop, soul, rock and roll, R&B, heavy metal, punk rock, and yes, hip-hop. Rock and roll is not conforming to the people who came before you, but creating your own path in music and life. That is Rock and roll and that is us.”

Simmons heard the message loud and clear. Taking Twitter he posted "Respectfully-- let me know when @JimiHendrix gets into the hip hop hall of fame. Then youll have a point. @icecube."

Gene drew the ire of the rap community last month with comments that rap music would be dead within a decade, and saying he basically looks forward to it's demise. Talib Kweli blasted the Simmons saying, “Hiphop has saved countless lives. How dare he wish it dead. So would it be fair to wish him dead, or nah?” he tweeted.

This isn't the first time the KISS frontman has has and issue with rap, particularly rappers getting inducted into the Hall. Back in 2014 he had an issue with Public Enemy being inducted and was vocal about it. He was quickly put in his place by Chuck D.
