To many music fans, Michael Jackson is arguably the greatest performer of all-time. But if you ask Chance The Rapper, the Chicago artist thinks Beyonce has the King of Pop beat.

The proclamation came during Chano's commencement speech on Saturday (May 12) at Dillard University in New Orleans. While motivating the graduating students to surpass those who came before them, Chance discussed "generations of little black kids" who watched MJ "do the impossible."

"One of those little black kids would grow up to be someone especially amazing,” Chance continued, talking about Beyonce. “She would do more than just copy Mike. She would surpass him. And now, I’m going to tell you about the greatest performance put on by the greatest performer of all time, and it wasn’t Mike.”

Referencing Bey's 2018 Coachella performance, the rapper said "in one fell swoop" Beyonce was able to eclipse "every Grammy performance, every Super Bowl halftime show, every talent show." The Coloring Book artist went on to call the singer's Coachella set "better than any performance Michael Jackson ever did."

Chance ended his speech with a moving message, telling the graduates the greatest performer ever may be in the audience and has Bey to look up to. “Beyonce had Mike. Mike didn’t have Mike. Mike had James Brown. James Brown had Cab Calloway, and so on and so on,” he said. “Right now, the greatest performer who ever lived might very well be in this audience. And that person has something Beyonce never had. They got Beyonce.”

Along with his powerful speech, Chance also received a honorary degree from Dillard University. "Btw im getting an honorary doctorates tmw!!! I had no idea!! Im about to be DR THE RAPPER IN THIS JOINT shit critical but yea wyo tn," the rapper tweeted on Friday (May 11).
