Maybe Kanye West's Steve Jobs worship isn't misplaced. The late Apple CEO's spirit of innovation seems to run through the company, with the music and computer giant rumored to be making another in a series of shrewd moves. The Guardian reports that the company has purchased UK-based startup Semetric, an analytics company. This comes ahead of Apple's relaunch of Beats Music, scheduled for later this year.

Founded in 2008, Semetric is responsible for the Musicmetric analytics tool, a means by which many major and independent labels track their music online, including through streaming services such as Spotify. The tool also takes into account social media data, Youtube plays, and even illegal avenues like BitTorrent pirating.

Apple declined to comment on Semetric specifically, stating that the company from time to time purchases smaller tech outfits.
