Young Guru Offers A $20 Mixing Class With Skillshare

Have you ever wanted to learn to mix like Young Guru? Well, you're in luck—as long as you've got $20 to spare. The legendary producer and engineer will teach a course in mixing on September 4 via Skillshare, a company that offers video classes where experts in a certain field share their specialized knowledge with an online audience. The video lessons are titled "Sound Check: The Essentials Of DIY Audio Mixing" and were filmed at SAE Institute New York. You can watch a video of Young Guru explaining the concept behind the class above.

In the clip, Young Guru touches on the importance of mentorship and the training one can get when with a master of a craft. "I learned underneath someone else," explains Young Guru. "A lot of kids today don't have access to those places. It's a situation where the places you would go to get that information are slowly but surely dying out."

It's still possible to sign up for the class, which officially launches on September 4. You can also sign up after September 4. Besides the $20 admittance fee, the course requires an internet connection, and a personal Digital Audio Workstation with the basic tools for mixing songs such as Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Garage Band, or Fruity Loops, according to a press release.

The press release also explains that students in the class will have the opportunity to participate in a contest with some pretty cool prizes. "Young Guru and his team will pick the 10 best-mixed songs out of the class and the winning students will be provided with a final mixed track courtesy of The Young Guru Mixing and Mastering Studios, along with a pair of AIAIAI headphones," states the press release. "One winner will also win a special prize pack from iStandardProducers.com, including lifetime membership to the website, access to their full library of soundkits, and admission to Beat Camp NYC at SAE Institute November 1-3."
