Where some live shows are simply enhanced DJing, fan-service with backing tracks and light shows, it's refreshing to see an out-and-out performer. That's exactly the role Tinashe filled last night (Nov. 16) when she stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform "Player," the new single from her forthcoming sophomore album, Joyride. The set came complete with sweats from Kanye West's adidas collaboration (that's Yeezy Season 1, not Season 2), music courtesy of the legendary Roots crew and a bit of microphone tossing that speaks to the hand-eye skills of everyone involved. Tinashe continues to forge a niche for herself as one of R&B's new voices best equipped to command an arena tour all by her lonesome.

The promotional run for Joyride has kicked into high gear of late. "Player," which features Chris Brown, recently got the video treatment. (She also stopped by Sway in the Morning, where she participated in the famous Five Fingers of Death challenge, with a performance indicating she might be rapping more in the near future.)  And the hip-hop connections run deep: in the last few months alone, she's teamed up with both Chance The Rapper and Young Thug, the latter of whom is expected to appear on the Joyride cut "Party Favors." This all comes a little over a year after the Kentucky native burst onto the seen with her critically acclaimed and wildly popular debut album, Aquarius.
