Six years after being signed to Star Trak/Interscope, Harlem rapper/singer Teyana Taylor has been released from the deal.

While talking to DJ Skee, Teyana announced she was released from her contract and was in the process of releasing some free music.

“I officially got my release from Star Trak/Interscope," the "Google Me" artist said via the airwaves. "I was signed for six years and there’s a lot of stuff that comes with the industry.”

Still, despite the decision, Teyana remains it was a respectful separation, as both parties "bowed out gracefully. There was no beef. I love Interscope, I love Star Trak. It’s always love for Pharrell; that’s my big brother. Now it’s time for me to go from a caterpillar to a butterfly. I had to fly away from the nest and venture out on my own.”

Now that she's a free agent, Teyana is speaking with other labels, presumably Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music being one of them since there were rumors in the past she would sign to them and given their previous work relationship (Teyana appeared on Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy). But first she's releasing some free music to her fans that are patiently waiting a new project from her.

“Now that I’m independent right now, I get to make music and finally create an EP and give the supporters and the fans free music,” she said.

The as-yet-titled EP will drop on February 29 led by the single “Make Your Move” with Wale. A second single, “DUI” featuring Jadakiss, will arrive on February 14.

Teyana was recently in the studio with Meek Mill and directed a video for Bay Area rapper Erk Tha Jerk. —Gina Montana
