Rappers Pay Tribute to ASAP Yams Two Years After His Death
The hip-hop world lost an influential man two years ago. A$AP Yams tragically passed away on Jan. 18, 2015, but his spirit lives on to this day. The A$AP Mob founder's legacy continues to grow thanks to the work of A$AP Rocky and other group members.
Outside of the crew, Yams influenced so many people around the world as a prominent tastemaker. For that reason, many rappers are honoring Yams on the anniversary of his death. XXL has compiled a few of the tributes from various MCs, including a heartfelt message from A$AP Ferg.
"Thank you Yams for believing in me," Ferg wrote. "Thanks for Being my brother and showing me your ways . I'm forever in debt to you in continuing your legacy. As long as they are screaming Ferg they are screaming Yams . I love you Bro and tonight I will cry , celebrate and pop champagne for your life . R.i.p lil Newport."
Yams' life will be celebrated tonight as part of Yams Day 2017. The event takes place at The Theater in Madison Square Garden and features an absolutely stacked lineup of artists. The entire A$AP Mob, Danny Brown, Top Dawg Entertainment, Joey Bada$$, Lil Uzi Vert, Flatbush Zombies, Playboi Carti, Cam’ron, Kirk Knight, Retch, T-Pain and Sha Hef are all scheduled to perform. Tyler, The Creator has also been announced as one the special guests for the festivities. There's sure to be a few surprises too as the hip-hop community pays their respects to the late Yams with an amazing show.
