As a young child in Oakland, a batboy for the local Major League Baseball team by the name Stanley Burrell would go on to become one of Hip Hop’s biggest entertainers in the late 80s and early 90s. Now known worldwide as MC Hammer, the longtime rapper and dancer has achieved fame and fortune due to his multi-platinum record sales including his diamond-selling 1990 smash album Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em.

On July 17, MC Hammer will be getting another high honor but this time it won’t be from the world of music. Hammer worked as a clubhouse assistant for his hometown squad Oakland Athletics between 1973 and 1980 and the MLB squad will be the first baseball team to award a bobblehead doll to a rapper. Bobblehead dolls usually feature former players and Hall Of Famers so Hammer is joining quite an elite list.
