Today, Aug. 20, is the birthday of Texas born rapper Kirko Bangz, who now turns 29.

This former XXL Freshman started rapping as a teenager and dropping his Procrastination Kills mixtape series while in college. By 2011, Bangz gained radio play and major notoriety for his single, "Drank In My Cup," which peaked at number 28 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. "Drank In My Cup" spawned remixes from the likes of J. Cole, 2 Chainz and Tyga and Bangz soon signed with Atlantic Records. In 2013, Bangz earned a spot on the year's XXL Freshman cover alongside Travis Scott, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, Joey Bada$$ and more. Kirko continued to dropping music ever since, releasing three more mixtapes and touring with the likes of his fellow Texas rapper Bun B. Kirko signed with 300 Entertainment in July 2015.

Happy Birthday, Kirko Bangz!
