DJ Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Garcia will be returning to their former home on New York's 89.9 FM WKCR to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their legendary radio show. Sucio Smash, the current host of the underground rap program, confirmed with XXLMag.com that the duo will be taking over the airwaves from 1 to 5 a.m. EST on early Friday morning (October 22).

Many of hip-hop’s biggest stars—including The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Nas, Big Pun, the Wu-Tang Clan, DMX, Cam’ron, Mobb Deep, Big L and Fat Joe, among others— got their start on Stretch and Bob.

Debuting in 1990, the show ran until 1998 when Armstrong left to go to Hot 97. Bobbito stayed on the air creating the CM Famalam Radio Program with co-host Lord Sear. Smash joined the fold in 2001, and was selected by Bob to take over after he retired a year later.

Ever since Sucio has been holding down the ranks on the newly minted Squeeze Radio, but unfortunately he was asked to end his tenure at the station two weeks ago. WKCR is run by Columbia University, and Smash says the board of directors blindsided him when they informed him that they will be replacing his show with a student run program.

“As of now Columbia has decided to have students do the show, so tomorrow will be the last time anybody affiliated with Stretch and Bob will do the show,” he said. “It’s just sad, they think well the hip hop show is gonna continue, but it’s not the same.”

Soon after he broke the news, fans of the show started a petition to save the show. Currently over 1,500 listeners have signed up in support. Fans can log onto squeezeradio.com for more information on the protest.
