Ariana Grande Expresses Her Anger and Sadness Over Mac Miller’s Death in Heartfelt Instagram Post
Since the death of Mac Miller on Sept. 7, ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande has remained quiet, aside from sharing a photo of the late rapper. Now, the pop star has opened up about his death on Instagram.
Grande hopped on IG on Friday (Sept. 14) to share a video of the late rapper along with a heartfelt message. "I adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will," the singer wrote. "I can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times."
Later in her post, the singer apologizes for not being able to fix and take Miller's pain away and calls the Pittsburgh rapper the "kindest, sweetest soul." Grande added, "I’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest."
In the footage Grande shared of Mac, the rapper appears to be preparing to tell a story before he notices Grande recording him. "Baby, stop," the rapper says while laughing. The singer goes on to tell him that the recording is for her because it makes her happy.
While some fans accused Grande of being responsible for Miller's death—forcing her to turn off the comments on her Instagram posts—a friend of the rapper said Grande was supportive of Mac's sobriety.
"I have to say, she was incredible when he was first sobering up," Shane Powers said on his podcast. "I gotta tell you, there was no one in Mac's life more ready to go to the wall for him when it came to him being sober. She was an unbelievably stabilizing force in his life. She was deeply helpful and effective in keeping him sober and helping him get sober, she was all about him getting healthy. Period."
Miller was found dead in his California home on Sept. 7 from an apparent drug overdose. He was 26 years old. An official cause of death has yet to be revealed as authorities wait for the results of the toxicology report.
