Young Thug has spent the better part of the last three years pushing at rap's outer boundaries, searching for cadences that have never been deployed before. Along the way, he's racked up a formidable handful of hits--"Lifestyle," "Best Friend," "Stoner," et. al--and has become a critical darling. In 2016, he hopes to put it all together en route to a retail debut on 300 Entertainment. The first step toward that is Slime Season 3, due out at the end of next week; late last night (Jan. 28), the first single from that project hit the Internet.

"F Cancer" features Quavo from the Migos, the Atlanta trio with whom Thug has apparently recorded a full mixtape. (Members of the Thug and Migos camps each say label red tape is holding the record in limbo.) But the new cut should be more than enough to sate fans: It's rattling and relentless like much of his best work, and is built around a pretty undeniable thesis.

For weeks now, Thug's been rapping the song's first verse at his live show. "Fuck cancer, shout out to Boosie," is a welcome shoutout to Boosie Badazz, the Baton Rouge legend who revealed at Thanksgiving that he'd been suffering from kidney cancer. Boosie later underwent surgery to remove part of one of his kidneys, and reported that he was now cancer-free. His most recent album, In My Feelings (Goin' Thru It) explores his life in the wake of the diagnosis.
