The day has finally arrived as J.R. releases his debut EP titled Gang Season. The St. Louis rapper's new project is being released through M.W.E. Music, Untouchable Records and EMPIRE Distribution.

The entire EP is available for purchase on iTunes, but J.R. has also put it up for free streaming through SoundCloud. Gang Season features seven tracks including J.R.'s biggest single to date, "Best Friends" featuring Trey Songz.

Readers might remember J.R.'s "Best Friends" as the music video for the song caused some serious controversy last fall. A Southampton high school vice principal lost her job after she appeared in the party-themed video, earning J.R.'s song some unplanned notoriety.

"The video in question showcases behaviors and language use that is not promoted by the Southampton School District,” school superintendent Dr. Scott Farina told the Southampton Press last year. “In fact, we actively teach our students the importance of good character and making smart choices. Additionally, this is not representative of who we are as a district, nor of our students and staff.”

It's been said that there is no such thing as bad publicity, so J.R. might have received a bump in recognition from the incident. Unfortunately, it may have came at someone else's expense. There's nothing an artist can do about that except try capitalize on it.

As for what's next, J.R. is scheduled to be appear at the 2016 South By Southwest Festival. The St. Louis rapper is said to be announcing the dates he will be performing there in the coming weeks. Until then, enjoy the Gang Season EP.
