Last month, VH1 announced plans to release a documentary based on “The Tanning Of America: How Hip-Hop Created a Culture That Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy” (2011) by Steve Stoute.

The film will examine hip-hop as a cultural movement and credits the genre's influential power in media, and is said to feature “never-before-seen footage and interviews” of Russell Simmons, Diddy, Mariah Carey, Al Sharpton and Tommy Hilfiger amid others.

Above, check out the network's first trailer for the educational offering, and be sure to catch the special, produced by filmmakers Billy Corben and Alfred Spellman of Rakontur, on VH1 in one-hour segments starting Feb. 24th – Feb. 27th at 11 p.m. EST each night.
