J. Cole made his triumphant return to the game late Thursday night (Dec. 1), dropping a 40-minute documentary titled Eyez. The visual contains new music including a song tentatively known as "False Prophets." On that track, Cole seems to be making clear reference to Kanye West, who has made headlines recently, first for praising President-elect Donald Trump and later for being hospitalized due to exhaustion. Cole's lyrics may have preceded these recent Kanye events, as he speaks to a broader sense of the Chicago native becoming a different person and artist than he was before.

On the track, which can be heard in part below, Cole raps, "Ego in charge of every move, he’s a star/And we can’t look away due to the days that he caught our hearts/He’s fallen apart, but we deny it/Justifying that half-ass shit he dropped, we always buy it/When he tell us he a genius but it’s clearer lately/It’s been hard for him to look into the mirror lately/There was a time when this nigga was my hero, maybe/That’s the reason why his fall from grace is hard to take."

Cole came up under Jay Z's Roc Nation wing, so his ties to Kanye are fairly established. Cole was featured on the G.O.O.D. Friday track "Looking for Trouble" featuring Pusha T, Big Sean and CyHi the Prince and has long been honest in his music with regard to mentors and feelings of disappointment, most memorably on 2013's "Let Nas Down."

Plenty of fans online are discussing the Kanye commentary, some drawing parallels to Drake's recent comments regarding Kid Cudi, who had just received rehabilitation treatment, the notion being that if someone needs help, let them seek that before offering an opinion on the matter.

Read a collection of "False Prophets" reactions above, with Power 105 The Breakfast Club host Charlamagne asking, "Can J. Cole get away with this since Kanye is ‘mentally ill?’ How fake woke Twitter feel about this?"

Cole's new album, 4 Your Eyez Only, drops Dec. 9.
