J. Cole Shares ‘Eyez’ Documentary, New Music From ‘4 Your Eyez Only’ Album

Following news that J. Cole will be releasing his fourth studio album, 4 Your Eyez Only, next week, the rapper releases a new 40-minute documentary titled Eyez. Members and non-members alike can watch the documentary above courtesy of TIDAL.

The visual shows Jermaine in the studio crafting the new project, the follow-up to 2014 Forest Hills Drive. Electric Lady Studios in New York is just one of the locations where Cole got busy recording. "First of all, you get to this height or this level of your career, in terms of platform, who's to say the next one, the next one might go down, it could go up,” he says. “You’re never guaranteed to be this high again. And while I’m here, let me use this opportunity to say the realest shit I’ve ever said.”

The rapper, who is shown playing guitar, shares some new music that will appear on the album. "Maybe it’s my fault for idolizing niggas based off the words they be rapping/When come to find out these niggas don’t even write their shit/Hear some new style bubbling up, then they bite that shit," he rhymes on the boom-bap beat of "False Prophets."

This is the first new music Cole has released in almost two years. The Roc Nation rapper has been touring around the world and occasionally popping up at local New York City shows for Noname and his Dreamville artist Ari Lennox. The last time Cole made big headlines was back in October when he was performing at the 2016 Meadows Music and Arts Festival in New York City and told fans that he was taking a break from the show circuit.

“Before I get out of here, listen. This is my last show for a very long time,” he told fans in the crowd, who were clearly upset by the news. But never fear, Cole World is back. His last album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, came out two years ago but the project still bumps like it was just released last week. The LP was certified two times platinum by the RIAA.

Cole was also one of the highest paid rappers last year based on Billboard’s top 40 Money Makers list. He was ranked 27th overall, earning an impressive $8.8 million in total revenue. He pulled in $5.5 million off touring alone, racked up $1.5 million in album sales and $788,000 in revenue from streaming plus earned $1.1 million in publishing.
