The 2018 Grammy Awards are a wrap, and while hip-hop came out heavy in nominations, the winners list was a bit lopsided. Kendrick Lamar swept the rap categories, taking home gramophones for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, bringing his career tally to an impressive 12 Grammys. Now, he's in elite company among some of hip-hop's greatest, most celebrated spitters—only three artists have more gramophones than Kenny.

It's taken a while for hip-hop to be celebrated at the Grammys. The genre was first recognized by the ceremony in 1989, when DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince won for Best Rap Performance for their hit single “Parents Just Don’t Understand.” Since then, multiple MCs have received Grammys (and even more legends haven’t been recognized). But which rapper has the most? XXL did some research and the results may surprise you. Check above for the rappers with the most Grammy awards.
