Kendrick Lamar is king. The rapper has received a well-deserved 11 nominations for the 2016 Grammy Awards, besting artists like J. Cole, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj. A look around social media proves the committee did the right thing when giving the Compton rhymer's To Pimp a Butterfly the opportunity to compete in a slew of categories this year.

The coveted Album of the Year spot finds him up against the Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Alabama Shakes and Chris Stapleton. K. Dot is also in the running for Best Rap Album with J. Cole's 2014 Forest Hills Drive, Dr. Dre's Compton, Drake's If You’re Reading This Its Too Late and Nicki Minaj's The Pinkprint as contenders. Moving on to songs, the MC earns a Best Rap Performance nod for "Alright" and Best Rap/Sung Performance for "These Walls."

After losing to Macklemore in a number of rap categories at the 2014 Grammy Awards, Kendrick's 11 nods this year is making up for past snubs. The rapper spoke to XXL last year about his feelings on the awards ceremony.

“I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre,” Kendrick said when asked if he thought the Grammys undervalued hip-hop. “We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.”
