Ty Dolla Sign has been fighting uphill for some time now, simply trying to secure a release date for his album. Now that Free TC is slated for a November release, the singer-producer is celebrating by dropping a mixtape. That's right--you might have thought it was a drought, but we now have full-length project from Mr. Sign in back-to-back months. The 2014 XXL Freshman's Airplane Mode arrived today (Oct. 13), complete with ten new records. Ty lends his hand to roughly half of the tape's production; the rest is handled by Mike WiLL Made It, DJ Mustard, Sonny Digital and others, including members of Ty's D.R.U.G.S. production collective. Airplane Mode is completely devoid of features, a fair proposition given the time Ty's had to lock himself away in the studio. Though he's just recently crossed over to the wrong side of 30, Ty's wealth of knowledge and experience in the industry has made him one of rap and R&B's most sought-after collaborators. His rise at radio and on the blog circuit was mostly concurrent with that of his fellow Los Angeles natives YG and Mustard. Ty also has production, songwriting or vocal credits on songs by artists as disparate as DJ Quik and Paul McCartney, Jermaine Dupri and N.O.R.E., Migos and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. The single from Free TC is a testament to that, sporting contributions from Rae Sremmurd and Future.
