The Game Is Being Sued for $12 Million

What was meant to be a friendly game of hoops has turned into a costly endeavor for The Game. On Monday (June 8), the Compton rapper turned himself in to police after a warrant had been issued for his arrest. (He was released roughly an hour later on $50,000 bail.) The warrant stems from a March incident in which the "Hate It Or Love It" star punched an off-duty LAPD officer named Onyebuchi Awaji. The punch was caught on video; Awaji claims that after it was thrown, Game threatened to kill him. The rapper says that this is untrue, and counters that Awaji implied he was going to retrieve a gun from his gym bag. Now, it looks as if the matter will play out in civil court as well. TMZ reports that Awaji is suing Game for some $12 million, with the breakdown as follows:

Pain and suffering: $1 million
Emotional distress: $1 million
Medical expenses (to date): $50,000
Medical expenses (future): $100,000
Punitive damages: $10 million

The lawsuit was filed in April; Game has yet to respond. Born Jayceon Taylor, the one-time G-Unit rapper has been a fixture in the hip-hop world for the last decade. His debut album, The Documentary, boasted a who's-who of the best producers in the world in the mid-2000s, with beats by Timbaland, Just Blaze, Havoc and more, including Dr. Dre. He has teased a sequel to The Documentary and has previously said it would be out in June. Neither he nor his camp have commented on how the legal proceedings surrounding the Awaji case will affect his musical pursuits.
