Maybe you were born too late. Maybe you lived outside of the broadcast radius. Maybe the episodes archived on Youtube and less-than-legal file-sharing services aren't enough. Whatever the case may be, fear no longer: The Stretch and Bobbito Show is coming to cassette, thanks to Fat Beats. For the entirety of the 1990s, Bobbito and DJ Stretch Armstrong hosted what many consider to be one of the greatest hip-hop radio shows to ever be broadcast, helping give an early platform to artists who would go on to be seminal figures, like Big L, Nas, Cam'ron, Jay Z, DMX, The Notorious B.I.G. and countless others. The WKCR-hosted show was known for playing rare or otherwise unheard b-sides and demo tapes, but especially for their in-studio freestyle sessions.

The proceeds from the tape sales will go toward Stretch and Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives, a documentary film on their time in the industry that the pair hopes to complete this summer. In 1995, Bobbito founded Fondle 'Em Records, the vinyl-only imprint that is perhaps best known for issuing DOOM's solo debut, Operation: Doomsday. The label was shuttered in 2001. Below, check out some of the classic freestyles from the show, including turns from Big L and Jay Z, Nas, Kool G Rap and MF Grimm and more.
