Bobby Shmurda and his GS9 crew were indicted in New York City today on charges ranging from murder to attempted murder to conspiracy to weapons possession to reckless endangerment (to be clear, Shmurda's individual charges do not include either murder or attempted murder). A press release sent out by the office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the city of New York, Bridget G. Brennan, detailed the incidents that led to the grand jury indictment.

According to prosecutors, GS9 was a "criminal street organization" in Flatbush, with the investigation indicating that they operated from January 2013 until October 2014 and the crimes from the indictment carried out with the intent to maintain and defend territory against rival gangs such as Folk Nation and Brooklyn's Most Wanted (BMW). Prosecutors also allege that GS9's operations were funded by drug deals and that members used code words for guns ("tone" or "socks"), drugs ("crills") and shootings ("suntan" or "scoom"). Authorities recorded 14 separate incidents where GS9 members fired weapons, sometimes in public places, and eight instances of members being arrested for weapons possession.

Multiple shooting incidents are detailed in the prosecutor's report. The first, from July 12, involved a 22-year-old woman shot in the neck in Brooklyn who was apparently standing in between Rashid "Rasha" Derrisant and Alex "A-Rod" Crandon and a member of the rival BMW gang. Rasha shot A-Rod in the arm during the incident; the two were charged alongside Deshain "Mitch" Cockett and Brian "Meeshie" Harvey for the crime (you may remember all four of them from the lyrics to "Hot Nigga," with the particular line, "Mitch caught a body 'bout a week ago").

A second recalls an incident from July 27, just before the EBC America Celebrity Championship at Barclays Center, where GS9 joined Fabolous (minus Bobby Shmurda) to perform "Hot Nigga" on the court (French Montana, Wale and Kendrick Lamar were also in attendance at the event). According to the press release, Chad "Rowdy Rebel" Marshall and Santino "Cueno" Broderick were allegedly driving through Boerum Hill in Brooklyn and spotted members of Folk Nation; Rowdy Rebel allegedly called out to the members while Cueno jumped out of the car and began shooting. Both are charged with attempted murder in the incident; the two were performing at Barclays Center just hours later.

As for Shmurda himself, one incident detailed in the press release alleges that he shot out a storefront window on Clarkson Avenue in June, apparently during an argument with his brother Javese "Fame" Pollard, who is also named in the indictment.

But the most serious shooting incident outlined is the murder of a rival BMW member in a bodega in Brooklyn in February 2013. According the the report, multiple BMW members were in the bodega when Rasha walked in firing bullets and left quickly, leaving a 19-year-old dead in the deli. A-Rod was also alleged to have been present; the two are both charged with murder (2nd degree) and attempted murder (2nd degree).

Finally, the crew is charged with drug trafficking, with each member operating as part of a conspiracy to protect territory and elude the cops. The charges are extensive (they can be found here).
