With word of Kendrick Lamar's sophomore album on the rise, many are wondering how far along K Dot is on the highly anticipated LP. XXL recently had the pleasure of speaking with the label's co-president Punch and obtained a brief update.

According to Punch, Kendrick's as-of-yet untitled LP does have a concept but they are still in the process of defining the project's actual sound.  "That’s a good question. I don’t know if it has a particular sound yet," Punch told XXL. "It’s process that we go through when we’re recording a project. I don’t want to give too much away but there’s certain steps that we take. I don’t think it’s to the point yet where we have the actual sound of what it’s going to be but the idea is there for sure, the whole concept and the different songs that he wants to make."

As far as a release date, when asked if Top Dawg was referencing Kendrick's album in the tweet announcing that TDE would be releasing 6 albums this year, Punch had this to say: "I mean, we got six artists, so six albums. I assume so."

Fort Worth, Texas-based producer, Cardo, also recently told XXL  that he was working on Kendrick's approaching LP. “There’s a whole lot of projects coming up though, man,” he said. “Of course the Jeezy album, the Ty Dolla $ign album, the Meek Mill album. Definitely Kendrick Lamar’s album.... Those are the primary projects that I’m focused on right now though.”-Miranda Johnson
