50 Cent’s In A New Movie
"Ghetto Qu'ran"Artist: 50 Cent
Release Year: 2000
Song Sampled: "Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)"
Sample Release Year: 1973
Sample Effect: Marvin's backing vocal and subtle groove gets augmented by 50's bouncing drums and a more pronounced bass, giving it more drive than the original.
Why The Song Is Dope: Well the song itself is dope on music alone, but the lyrics are what probably led to a couple shootings amongst some of the hip-hop heavyweights in Queens. It's the track that got 50 labeled a snitch, and might have led to him getting shot nine times, as well as contributed to his feud with Ja Rule and Murder Inc. But, you know, the things you gotta do for hip-hop superstardom... —DR
50 Cent has been everywhere as of late and is showing no signs of slowing down. In the past few weeks, Fif has announced an upcoming independent album titled Animal Ambition, ruffled the feathers with comments about his G-Unit running mates, released a new music video for his song “Pilot”, and debuted a new song with Trey Songz. As if he didn’t have enough on his plate already, it is now being reported that he’ll star alongside Jude Law, Melissa McCarthy, and Jason Statham in the action/comedy movie Spy which will begin shooting this month in Budapest.
Fifty has now carved out a nice acting career after making his debut in Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in 2005. It is unclear how he will fit into Spy but he will apparently play himself. The film will be directed by Paul Feig, best known for his work on the 2011 comedy Bridesmaids.—Peter Walsh
