Album Sales Declined Slightly From 2011 to 2012

With just a few days into 2013, there’s an interesting bit of information regarding record sales in 2012. According to projected US-based Nielsen Soundscan data, recorded music sales dropped slightly compared to last year. This means that the music industry is continuing to face a decline, but not as drastic as one would imagine. Check out the graph above that tracks album sales over a four-year period.

Except they leave off all the units being sold outside of Soundscan – which fewer and fewer ppl rely on. Soundscan is what’s in decline. How many records sold on bandcamp without a registered UPC? Or how many mom and pops don’t report any longer? Or even how many artists selling on the road but not reporting. The sky ain’t falling, the ppl just rotating under the sun.
